It feels fitting that the symbol of Singapore is the MerLion, as that is what I felt like while there. The humidity left my hair wild and frizzy like the lions mane it is and I constantly felt the desire to go for a swim 🥵🧜‍♀️🦁

Rang in 29 in the best way possible! 🎂 After waking up on a sleeper train in the beautiful city of Hoi An, there were coconut boats and liquor buckets, karaoke and flaming drinks, custom made clothes and so so many lanterns. I think I lost count of how many times I was serenaded (mostly by the coconut boat driver).
And a shout out to @taterpeacock for helping coordinate so much of it! 💕

Only about a month and a half behind, but about time I circled back to the end stages of my summer long backpacking trip

Stop 18: Lisbon, Portugal 🇵🇹

Country #30! A huge milestone was hit and it couldn’t have been a better pick (especially since I was supposed to hit 30 a week earlier and health/physical issues stopped that from happening).
But I fell in love with Lisbon the moment I got here. There was this odd sense of peace that came over me once I got there and settled in like this was the place I was meant to be at this point in time.
My time in Lisbon was filled with mostly highs starting with one of the coolest hostels I’ve ever stayed at (thanks @goodmorninghostel ) and then consisted of surf lessons at Praia da Mata, day trips to Sintra (including Quinta da Reguleira), Cascais and Cabo da Roca (the farthest west point in mainland Portugal), walks through the Alfama district, party boats on the river with new friends and plenty of time spent just staring at the ocean.
It wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows as I also had to deal with my phone dying out of the blue and managing to set up my back up phone so I had connection to the outside world, but it’s still been one of my favorite stops and it came at a point where I think I needed Portugal more than I realized. And it helps that Lisbon was an absolutely stunning city.

Stop 17: Barcelona, Spain 🇪🇸

Barcelona and I might just be cursed together. My first trip here was 8 years ago and came 2 days after I lost my phone while studying in France. It was an anxiety filled day as I closely followed my classmates everywhere for fear I’d end up missing my bus back to school and end up stranded and lost in Barcelona. This also meant I had zero pictures from the whole trip.
Now this second time, I was hoping for some redemption. I didn’t get it. My week in Barcelona coincided with some of the worst cramping I’ve ever had to deal with and left me most days without being able to leave bed for very long due to the pain and dizzy spells. It was the first time this trip that I had to miss an already booked day trip for health reasons (sorry Andorra, I’ll be back for you!).
One of these days I’ll actually be able to enjoy myself in Barcelona, unfortunately it was not this trip except for one morning I felt well enough to venture more than 10 minutes from my hostel (and well worth it because that cupcake shop I found is one of the best I’ve ever tried).

Rome felt like being home. And by that I mean I ate pasta for every meal and hung out with my parents.
The pasta and apéros spritzes were aplenty and I nearly broke into tears when I saw my parents for the first time in over 3 months. Exactly what I needed.
